Hyundai Adds Versatile Wagon To i30 Range

May 20th, 2009

Hyundai’s award winning i30 hatchback range has been extended with the arrival of a station wagon variant which looks set to rekindle interest in mid sized wagons which have been overshadowed by more upright MPVs.

As is often the case with wagons, the car’s total length has been increased by 230mm to boost load carrying capacity. However, the i30 load-carrier also has a 50mm longer wheelbase, giving rear passengers even more room than the hatch donor car. The i30′s roof-line has been raised by 40mm and rear headroom extended to 987mm.

All up the wagon now boasts a 415-litre load area with the seats up, which is 75 litres greater than the hatch can provide, an increase of 22%. This volume can be increased to 1395 litres with rear seats folded down, compared with 1250litres for the hatch. The load area is wide uncluttered and comes with a standard elasticized luggage net – along with Hyundai’s usual fire extinguisher and first-aid kit

Three engine options are available a 1.6litre 90kw/154nm petrol, 1.6 litre turbo diesel with 85kw and 255NM of torque and a 2.0 litre 105kw/186nm petrol. Prices start at $30,990 for the 1.6 litre petrol manual and top off at $36,990 for the auto diesel Elite.
Standard equipment across all models is top class, including six airbags, air conditioning, electronic stability control and ABS as standard, along with keyless entry, power windows, alloy wheels and a six-speaker MP3/ iPod compatible CD stereo.
