New Legacy & Outback Sophisticated, Efficient

June 8th, 2009

Subaru’s much anticipated new generation Legacy and Outback have been unveiled in Japan this week, with breakthrough fuel economy figures, foreshadowing the models which will arrive in NZ in the third quarter.

The Legacy sedan and wagon and the higher riding Outback will come with a choice of 2.5 and 3.6-litre petrol Boxer engines and a 2.0-litre diesel Boxer engine along with Subaru’s trademark symmetrical All Wheel Drive. The Legacy GT will have a petrol 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer engine.

All normally aspirated 2.5-litre petrol models will have Subaru’s all-new Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic transmission as an option. The new CVT with 6-speed paddle shift is a key factor in the substantial gains in fuel economy, along with the revised engine line-up. Other transmission options include 6-speed manual, and in performance models, 5-speed automatic transmissions are available. Features available within the range include: Ultra efficient Lineartonic Constantly Variable Transmission (CVT), knee airbags, underlining Subaru’s long-held safety commitment, rain sensing windscreen wipers, dusk sensing headlights, push button start with keyless entry, along with electronic park brake.

MD of Subaru of NZ Graeme Woodlands says the new models are a further step up in refinement and will further add to the car’s popularity. “The new Outback and Legacy will offer a more spacious and comfortable package with exceptional fuel economy while retaining their reputation as a _great drive. We’ve almost sold out all of the existing generation models here in NZ, so forward orders are starting to build for the new model.”
